4 Smart Ways to Add a Bixpy Motor to Your Vibe Shearwater 125

Bixpy Canada

The Vibe Shearwater 125 is already a highly capable fishing kayak. With its wide, stable platform, modular pod system, pedal-drive compatibility, and generous rigging space, it’s built for long days on lakes, rivers, and coastal waters. Adding a Bixpy K-1 Electric Motor is an easy way to reduce fatigue, manage wind and current, and cover more water with less effort.

Below are four proven Bixpy mounting options that work especially well with the Shearwater 125. Each gives you a different way to add power depending on how you paddle, fish, and rig your kayak.

1. Pedal Drive Adapter

If your Shearwater 125 is equipped with a pedal system, Bixpy offers two drop-in motor options depending on your drive style.

Impulse Drive Setup
If your kayak uses the Impulse Drive, the Impulse Pedal Drive Adapter replaces the pedal unit and drops directly into the same opening. It creates a centred, balanced mounting point for the motor with no drilling or permanent changes.

X-Drive Setup
For Shearwater models with the X-Drive, the Mirage-Type Pedal Drive Adapter fits into the same fin-style opening once the pedal drive is removed.

In both cases, the K-1 Motor mounts underneath the adapter, keeping the thrust centred under the kayak for smooth tracking and efficient movement. The updated design is lighter, more compact, and includes a reinforced front bumper to protect the motor in shallow water. It’s a clean, low-drag setup that installs in minutes.

2. Universal Versa Rudder

The Universal Versa Rudder replaces your stock rudder and combines steering and motor mounting into one streamlined unit. Installation starts by removing the factory rudder and inserting the Versa Rudder into the existing 10 mm rudder pin hole. You then reconnect your steering lines as normal.

The K-1 Motor mounts to the bottom of the rudder, letting you steer with the same foot pedals or handles you already use. This keeps your deck clear, places the motor safely behind the kayak, and delivers smooth, predictable handling. For paddlers who prefer a stern-mounted motor that feels natural and integrated, the Versa Rudder is a strong choice.

3. DIY Pod Adapter

If your Shearwater uses a removable pod, the DIY Pod Adapter offers one of the cleanest and most integrated motor installs available. The adapter plate bolts directly to the underside of the dry pod using the included hardware, and the K-1 Motor mounts to the plate.

Once installed, the pod drops back into place and the motor sits centred beneath the kayak. This keeps everything balanced and tracking straight. The system is lightweight, low-profile, and includes a protective shield to guard the motor in shallow areas. All parts are waterproof and corrosion-resistant, making this a great option for Canadian anglers who want a tidy, removable setup.

4. Railblaza Adapter

The Railblaza Adapter is the most flexible option. It can be mounted on any flat 3-inch surface or directly to Railblaza-compatible tracks. After securing the base plate, the K-1 Motor locks into place.

This setup positions the motor off to the side of the kayak and works well for custom rigs or boats already outfitted with Railblaza accessories. While most Shearwater owners choose one of the more integrated options above, this adapter is useful if you want maximum mounting freedom.

Ready to Power Up Your Shearwater 125?

With over 20 adapters in the Bixpy system, almost any kayak can be motorized, but the Vibe Shearwater 125 is especially well suited for it. Each of the setups above delivers quiet, efficient electric power that helps you travel farther, handle current more easily, and spend more time fishing instead of fighting conditions.
