Two Paths, One Motor

The first thing to understand is that we designed two distinct installation experiences because we know our community includes both people who want to be on the water in minutes and people who love a good garage project. Our plug-and-play WillFit Adapter kits are for the first group. Our DIY adapters and Universal Adapters are for the second. Both paths end with the same result: a reliable, lightweight electric motor on your watercraft. They just get there differently.

The Plug-and-Play Experience

If your kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or dinghy matches one of our model-specific WillFit Adapters, setup is genuinely fast. No drilling into your hull. No permanent modifications. No special tools in most cases. Just connect the pieces and go.

A first-time setup typically takes ten to fifteen minutes. That includes opening the box, scanning the quick-start guide, mounting the adapter to your watercraft, clicking the motor into place, and connecting the battery. By the second or third outing, you will have the process down to three to five minutes because you already know where everything goes and how it fits.

Here is what that looks like for the most popular configurations among Canadian paddlers.

Sit-on-top kayak with scupper hole adapter. The adapter drops into a rear scupper hole and locks in. No adhesive, no hardware. Attach the motor, connect the battery cable, stow the battery in the cockpit or tank well. Ten to fifteen minutes the first time, two to four minutes after that.

Paddleboard with fin-box adapter. Pull out the stock fin, slide in the Bixpy Canada adapter, tighten a single thumbscrew, clip on the motor. Five to ten minutes the first time. Canoe with gunwale or stern adapter. A clamp-style adapter grips the gunwale or transom and adjusts to fit a wide variety of hull designs, from lightweight tripping canoes to heavy-duty boats built for northern river travel. Ten to fifteen minutes the first time while you find the best clamp position. Three to five minutes on repeat outings.

Kayak with rudder mount adapter. If your kayak has a rudder or rudder-ready stern, the adapter bolts onto existing hardware. You may need to remove the factory rudder for the initial install, which adds a few minutes and might require a basic wrench. Fifteen to twenty minutes the first time. Three to five minutes after that because the mount plate stays on the kayak between trips.

Dinghy or tender with transom adapter. Clamps to a flat transom the same way a small outboard bracket would. Ten to fifteen minutes initially. Three to five minutes per outing after that.

Removal and Portaging

Taking the motor off is the reverse of putting it on. Most plug-and-play setups break down in under five minutes.
